2009 Tartan Day Buttons

From Jack Barker at the Tartan Day Cooperative:

Greetings from Tartan Day Wisconsin!

Well, Memorial Day—the unofficial start of summer—is just past, which means we’re getting close to the start of the summer Highland Games season. Which is a great time to start getting people revved up for next year’s Tartan Day and to start fundraising with the official 2009 Tartan Day buttons!

That’s right, the 2009 Tartan Day button is now available for ordering! You can download the order form on our web site: TartanDayButtons.com.

As always, there is a limited number of buttons available, so I highly recommend ordering early. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Have a great summer!--Jack A. Barker Tartan Day Cooperative of Wisconsin

Dianne

Tartan Day 2009 Buttons

Jack Barker of the Tartan Day Cooperative of Wisconsin has announced that the official Tartan Day 2009 buttons have arrived and are ready for ordering.

Jack has been designing the buttons since the 2001 button. Prior to that, the buttons were available from Babs Humphrey, Jack's mother.

The buttons are distributed under the auspices of The Scottish Coalition, the organization that has spearheaded the recognition of Tartan Day since 1997.

These beautiful buttons always sell very quickly, so be sure to order early.

For more information or to order your official Tartan Day 2009 buttons, visit TartanDayButtons.com.

Slainte,
Dianne

Tartan Day Photos

While I was doing a spring cleaning of my computer files, I found items from Maine Tartan Day 2007. One file is a plaque made by Noel Bonam, Director of Maine's Multicultural Office, using items we presented to him at the event. You can click on the photo for a full-size view.

Holy Tartan Day, Batman! Where Have You Been?

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth; it just looks that way.

Awhile back, after a series of unexpected events, my cardiologist suggested that I take an immediate break from all things that cause stress and anxiety. And by "immediate" he meant "right now, without delay, and promptly." He scared the bejesus out of me.

So I rested. I (tried) to relax. I took care of myself. And now I'm easing back into things.

The first thing I need to do is apologize to everyone I promised to send Tartan Day information to. (I know, I know. That was a poorly constructed sentence. I'm out of practice.). I'm working on getting that information out to all of you.

This most recent development also means that I will not be producing a Tartan Day event in Maine this year.

This certainly should not mean that there won't be any Tartan Day celebrations in Maine. Feel free to gather together and celebrate our heritage and history. Raise a glass. Eat some haggis. Wear your tartan. Raise another glass. Repeat as needed.

It is never too early to begin planning for Tartan Day 2009. One lesson that I've learned extremely well (and with extreme difficulty; I've been told I'm a bit stubborn) recently is that I don't have to do everything myself and that if I just ask, the help will come. So if you want to help with next year's Tartan Day, let me know. I'd love to have you. My email is MaineScot@gmail.com.

I've got some great articles coming up so check back soon.

Slainte,
Dianne
